Erewhon and Gelson's both take a high share of direct store delivery, which means smaller drop sizes across many individual doors rather than a single consolidated appointment. For an emerging brand that is an advantage, because you do not need full truckload volume to get on shelf. It is also a harder freight problem than it looks, since a multi-stop refrigerated route through dense urban streets is not the same job as one drop at a distribution center.
