Why we build freight around the store map

A brand does not ship to Southern California. It ships to specific doors with specific receiving rules, and the difference between those two things is where most freight problems start.

Direct store delivery is its own problem

Erewhon, Gelson's, Lassens and Mother's Market take a high share of freight straight to the store. Small drops across many doors is a different job than one appointment at a dock, and it is the one general brokers handle worst.

Distribution centers set the rules

Sprouts routes through Fullerton, Whole Foods through Vernon, and UNFI and KeHE through their own facilities. Each has its own appointment process, and missing it is what turns into a chargeback.

Cold chain does not get a second chance

Refrigerated and frozen product either arrives in spec or it is a claim. Our carrier network is built around temperature-controlled capacity in Southern California, not sourced load by load.
